Windmill's Visiting Erasmus Plus KA2 partners last week.

15th Apr 2019

Windmill was delighted to host s visit from our Erasmus Plus KA2 partners last week. The nursery and foundation stage classes are involved in the 2 year project ‘European New Generation’ with schools from Turkey, Greece, Croatia, Denmark and Finland. This project is looking at innovative ways to teach young children maths, science, art, music and technology or STEAM subjects.

Three members of the Windmill staff travelled to the first meeting for the project in Izmir, Turkey last December.

Windmill hosted 14 visiting staff over the four days and they had the opportunity to tour the school meeting pupils and staff and were shown around by some of our pupil council.

They took part in a Play to Learn More session with Miss Jill Somerville and some nursery and P1 children, this was an opportunity for them to see how our children have been learning some of their core maths skills through movement.

This meeting was about how to introduce early mathematical concepts to young children through play and to help parents understand that maths can be a joyful activity for all. Each of the partners shared some of the activities that they have been doing in their preschools. The partners also had the opportunity to learn some more about how to use the eTwinning, Erasmus Mobility and Europass platforms to share activities, record information about the project and share reports on each meeting over the two year period.

The visitors stayed in the Ryandale in The Moy and during the 4 days, had the opportunity to make some candles at Bumble and Blue, visit the North Coast and the Giant’s Causeway, do a walking tour of Armagh and the 2 cathedrals with Donna Fox Tours and spend time in The Hill Of The O’Neill Ranfurly centre and museum.

The partners were very generous to the children and school and have left some wonderful games for the children to enjoy as well as some delicious treats for children and staff.

Next school year some Windmill staff will travel to Finland, Croatia, Greece and Denmark to share and learn more in this project.
