Smart Teachers Play More in Iceland!
Last week Mrs Corr, Mrs Tate, Mrs Cowan & Mrs Mullen travelled to Reykjavik in Iceland to take part in the Smart Teachers Play More course as part of a year long Erasmus Plus Project - Inclusive Creative Learning. 4 staff members had already completed this course in Alicante and had come back with lots of new ideas.
The 4 travellers arrived on a Sunday afternoon and after settling into their hotel went out for a walk in the snow to find out where the course was to be held. Each day from 9 until 3 they attended the course with 18 other teaches from around Europe. The course was led by Sarah from Smart English and Kristín from Play to Learn More.
They learned lots of songs and chants to help children remember new words or phrases or stories & lots of ways to help it be more fun to move about the school rather than just always walking. There were lots of simple ideas to help young children learn numbers, letters and shapes whilst moving about and having lots of fun.
Every day there were so many ideas that everyone knew they could use back with their classes at Windmill.
Each evening we got to explore something else in and around Reykjavik & there was a lot of snow and ice. Mrs Corr & Mrs Cowan made a snow angels but only one was caught in a photo. We got to see the geysers and waterfalls but unfortunately not the Northern Lights.
Watch out for lots of Smart Teachers Play More activities in each of the classes where the 8 members of staff who have attended the training work.
