Erasmus Plus Visit to Belgium.

21st Jun 2022

From June 14th to 17th, 3 staff members,  Mrs Corr, Mrs Tate & Mrs Creggan, travelled to Antwerp in Belgium to take in the second mobility of our KA229 Project Full STEAM Ahead with partners from Iceland, Norway, England, Croatia and Belgium. From Tuesday to Friday were based in our partner school, Stedelijke Basisschool Polderstad. The partners shared ideas on how we can work with young children focusing on sustainability and ecological thinking through outdoor learning. On one of the days all the partners offered some fun outdoor STEAM activities to the childcare from the kindergarten - there was a chance to do some woodwork, make colourful sticks with wool and feather, create movement with windmills whilst moving round the playground, look at mini beasts through a microscope and play with shaving foam and liquid colouring. One evening each of the visiting partners presented about their schools and the hosts provided us with beautiful food and a cake.

Polderstad school is quite like Windmill as it is has a kindergarten attached to the main school but they have 2 of every class. Their children are in the kindergarten for 2 years so it is like our nursery and P1 classes in one area.

The school offers yoga classes for all the children and visits to a nearby nature park. They also put their coats on the same way as our nursery class!

During the week staff had the opportunity to visit classes and play with the children in the kindergarten. They also took part in a walking tour of Antwerp and the sewers!

This was he end of the first year of our project and we look forward to welcoming the partners to Windmill in November 2022.
